The South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association (SCLEOA) formally announced on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 their affiliation with Special Olympics South Carolina.
SCLEOA has a 55-year history raising over 18 million dollars for children and adults with disabilities and is looking forward to putting those fund raising efforts to work for Special Olympics. Current SCLEOA President, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, sees the relationship as a natural extension of law enforcement officers’ commitment to help their community and serve all their citizens. According to Sheriff Lott, “Cops are about helping others and they love the thrill of competition. Serving Special Olympics allows our members to do both.”
Special Olympics is a sports training and competition organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Currently there are more than 15,000 athletes in South Carolina that train and compete in 22 different Olympic-type sports.
