2007 Officer of the Year Honoring the law enforcement officer who has excelled in law enforcement due to individual development and exceptional performance of duties combined with distinguished community service.
PFC Candy Johnson The 2007 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year is Private First Class Candy Johnson of the North Charleston Police Department. To quote her chief, Jon Zumalt, Officer Johnson is truly a credit to law enforcement and City of North Charleston. Her character and performance as a member of the North Charleston Police Department are above reproach. Officer Johnson exhibits outstanding qualities as a law enforcement officer. However, one event stands out to demonstrate her excellent skills in the profession. On the afternoon of September 30, 2006 one of the most heinous murders in the history of North Charleston took place. A mother and her four young children were gunned down by the mother’s husband. The first officer on the scene obtained suspect information and broadcast it to all officers in the area. Pfc. Johnson received the information as she was entering into the neighborhood to search the area. Almost immediately she observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway and male subject attempting to get into the passenger side. The individual matched the suspect description given by the officers at the scene. Before the suspect could flee the area, Officer Johnson stepped out and immediately detained the subject. |
