A Message from Our Executive Director

Monday, March 8, 2010

Dear SCLEOA Members and Supporters,

For nearly seventy years, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association (SCLEOA) has been a mainstay in the law enforcement community in South Carolina. By leading the charge to create a centralized criminal justice academy and fighting to increase benefits for law enforcement officers at the State House, we have established ourselves as The Voice of Law Enforcement in South Carolina. Despite being founded during one of our nation’s most trying financial times, we have always found a way to overcome any obstacle and stand to promote and enhance the law enforcement profession in South Carolina.

In less than fourteen months, our membership has increased by more than 1,000 members even as the nation is once again faced with extremely difficult financial times. In addition, we have been more visible and more vocal at the South Carolina State House than we have been in recent memory. We have continued to award scholarships to high school seniors and raise money for the Special Olympics of South Carolina. Most importantly, we have continued to provide increased training opportunities and to protect our officers, and their families, through our line of duty death benefits and our legal representation program.

Despite the implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan and an increase in membership, all of these accomplishments may go for naught. Although the Association’s leadership has made every effort to operate the Association in the most fiscally conservative manner possible, we too find ourselves with more months than money. Simply put, the SCLEOA needs your help to continue serving as the largest law enforcement advocacy group in South Carolina.

I would ask that you please consider two things. First, if you are able and willing, please consider supporting us financially. We realize that the vast majority of our members are already operating on tightened budgets. So, we are not asking for, nor are we expecting, a bailout from our members. We simply ask that you consider making a one time, tax deductible contribution to the SCLEOF (the non-profit subsidiary of the SCLEOA) should you find yourself with a little extra at the end of the month.

Second, please do everything you can to spread the word about our positive accomplishments and our need for financial support. As stated above, we depend on the professionalism and dedication of our members to keep the Association moving forward. After all, the SCLEOA belongs to its members and can only succeed when everyone works together for the betterment of all.

We are, and with your help can remain, The Voice of Law Enforcement in South Carolina.

Sincerely,

Jarrod M. Bruder
Executive Director, SCLEOA
