The 2007 Citizen of the Year Award is presented posthumously to Arthur Morrison Strickland, III.  Mr. Strickland passed away on October 31, 2006.  When Mr. Strickland returned to Florence after working as a news director for a CBS affiliate and later as press secretary for the mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he developed and produced the Pee Dee’s Most Wanted.  This show covered crimes and suspects in northeaster South Carolina and several counties in North Carolina.  Thousand of subjects were apprehended as a result of tips from viewers of the program.  Cold cases were revived and arrests were made.  In addition, law enforcement officers in the Pee Dee were profiled to the citizens that they served.  The show received a National Community Service Award. Through the duration of the program, Mr. Strickland worked without compensation, donating his services to make his community a safer place to live.

In addition to his service with the Pee Dee’s Most Wanted, Mr. Strickland served on the Board of Directors for Crimestoppers of the Pee Dee.

We recognize Shirley Strickland to receive this award in her late husband’s honor.
