Since taking office in January 2005, Sheriff Kenny Boone of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office has taken great strides in implementing new-age approaches to an age-old problem….crime. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office has diligently worked on several key initiatives to reduce crime in the county. Sheriff Boone implemented PACE, Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement. PACE consists of five deputies that aggressively work high crime areas. Their efforts have produced a double-digit decrease in violent crime in their targeted areas. Sheriff Boone was the first law enforcement executive to sign the SC Attorney General Internet Crimes Again Children Memorandum of Understanding and has implemented a validation of sex offender registry information policy whereby registry offender information is verified by Florence County Sheriff’s Office personnel that make home and job visits. In addition, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office has contracted with “Offender Watch” to give Florence County citizens access to registry information and allows then to receive email notification when a sex offender moves into their neighborhoods. Sheriff Boone has also implemented a state-of-the art records and corrections management system which will allow critical information sharing among all of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office departments. The new system also provides crime-mapping and trend analysis that will allow Florence County resources to be quickly mobilized to areas experiencing an upswing in criminal activity. It enables the Office to be proactive rather than reactive regarding criminal activity. In addition, Sheriff Boone has personally supervised investigative efforts that led to the arrests and removal from office of several corrupt public officials. These arrests have helped to restore the confidence that the citizens have for local government. However, perhaps the single greatest achievement that can be attributed to Sheriff Boone is the increase in employee morale. Whether it is through his personal involvement in these new initiatives or his “lead by example” philosophy, Sheriff Boone has raised morale and employee job satisfaction to all time highs. Congratulations to the 2007 Alltel Crime Prevention Award recipient, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. |
